  • JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
    • Responsible for the coordination of health care services for trauma patients during acute and continued care periods. Assists the organized multi-disciplinary trauma team to develop a philosophy of care consistent with providing quality service, including the development of educational and activities related to the care of traumatically injured patients. Works closely with the Trauma Program Manager and other hospital staff to coordinate educational aspects of the trauma program and ongoing staff/public education. Performs in the following roles: coordinator (clinical role model and consultant), educator and evaluator.
  • DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    • The Emergency Department provides care for patients with a wide variety of needs from non-critical to emergent medical conditions including emergent and urgent mental health care. All patients are welcome whether walking in or arriving by emergency transport. All Emergency Department staff are certified to care for critical cardiac and trauma patients including children.
  • EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
    • Current unencumbered Oregon RN license required.
    • Evidence of at least sixteen hours of trauma continuing education in the last four (4) years required.
    • ACLS required within 30 days of hire.
    • PALS and TNCC required within six (6) months of hire.
      • Note: For staff hired prior to January 4th, 2021 - ENPC is acceptable in lieu of PALS until January 1st, 2025 to allow PALS to be obtained upon expiration of ENPC.
    • Healthcare Provider BLS required.
    • Experience in computer applications required.
    • PCH Emergency:
      • Three (3) years experience as an emergency nurse or ICU nurse taking care of trauma patients at a Trauma Certified Hospital required.

Basic understanding of age-related differences in caring for and/or communicating with patients and caregivers.     • Adaptability/Flexibility: Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to situations that may arise with high risk or diverse patient populations. Ability to adjust actions in relation to others and adapt to offer best possible care to patients.
    • Time Management: Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work to complete within required time frames and to follow-up on pending issues. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in dynamic fast-paced environments and under pressure.
    • Communication: Effective written and oral communication skills to explain complex issues, exchange information between team members, and tactfully discuss issues.
    • Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the human life span. Ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs.
