  • JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
    • Acts as a facilitator using interactive discussions and "hands-on" approaches to enrich children's developmental and educational experiences in order for each individual child to reach their maximum potential. Responsible for organizing and implementing a developmentally based educational program that addresses children's physical, social-emotional, cognitive and language development as well as develops their skills in literacy, mathematics, social studies, English language acquisition, the arts and science and technology.
  • DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    • The Samaritan Early Learning Center creates fun learning experiences for infants, toddlers and children up to eight (8) years with activities that reflect their developmental stage. It has served the children and families of Lincoln City and north Lincoln County for the past three decades. In 2015, Samaritan Early Learning Center’s commitment to quality was recognized with a five-star rating, the highest quality rating possible from Oregon’s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). To date, it is the only QRIS top-rated infant/toddler preschool program in Lincoln County.
  • EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
    • Registered with the Oregon Background registry required.
    • One (1) of the following required:
      • A one (1) year nationally recognized Credential related to assigned age group.
      • Completion of 10 semester credits or 15 quarter credits in Early Childhood Education or Child Development at a college or University AND six (6) months experience as a teacher in a certified childcare center or comparable group care program.
      • One (1) year experience as a teacher in a certified childcare center or comparable group care program.
    • Required within 90 days of employment:
      • CPR: HS AED with first aid.
      • Valid Oregon Food Handlers card.
      • Level seven (7) on the Oregon Professional Development Registry.
      • Successful completion of “Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse” class.
    • One (1) of the following required within two (2) years of hire:
      • Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
      • Level nine (9) or higher on the Oregon Professional Development Registry.
  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
    • Service Orientation - Knowledge of various resources/models of early childhood styles of learning. Ability to create a positive, caring environment, to show personal interest in each child, and to promote high quality learning experiences. Demonstrates patience, enthusiasm, and creativity for children and families as well as appreciation for diversity and early childhood education.
    • Child Development - Knowledge of early childhood educational theory and practice. Maintains knowledge in recent research and learning and applies it to the classroom. Skilled in the selection and implementation of teaching methods/procedures. Knowledge of children's social, emotional and developmental levels. 
    • Knowledge of the Oregon Child Care rules and regulations pertaining to the operation of the facility.
    • Adaptability/Flexibility - Ability to adjust to changes and demonstrate patience when working with children and families. Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to any challenges and to meet new responsibilities as well as find alternative solutions. 
    • Team Building - Ability to work, function and communicate on a multi-disciplinary diverse team. Possess the knowledge and skills to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time. Displays a good-natured cooperative attitude. 
    • Communication - Effective written and oral communication skills to exchange information with children, families and team members. Ability to tactfully discuss difficult issues, to perform classroom and group presentations and to listen and understand information and ideas.
