  • JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
    • Delivers services in various settings to promote recovery and resilience by using their lived experience of recovery from substance use/abuse and/or addiction, plus skills learned in formal training. Has experience with substance use treatment and recovery and is willing to share their personal/practical experience, knowledge and first-hand insight to benefit the team and its participants. Personal recovery is well established and provides expertise that professional training cannot replicate.
  • DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    • The Community Health Promotion staff work closely with local and regional organizations and coalitions to identify and address community health needs. The staff also represents Samaritan Health Services on local, state and national coalitions that supports the mission, vision, and goals of Samaritan Health Services. The staff manages and reports on community benefit activities provided by SHS staff using the CBISA software and is responsible for conducting community health needs assessments and implementing a community benefit plan throughout the region. The Community Health Promotion staff administers and monitors the social accountability grants distributed to local non-profit organization in Benton, Lincoln and Linn counties.
  • EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
    • High School diploma or equivalent required.
    • Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM) or Peer Support Specialist (PSS) by the State of Oregon required within six (6) months of hire.
    • One (1) of the following required in order to meet the definition of Peer as defined by the State of Oregon Administrative Rule:
      • Self-identified person currently or formerly receiving mental health services.
      • Self-identified person in recovery from a substance abuse disorder, who meet the abstinence requirements for recovering staff in alcohol and other drug treatment programs.
      • Family member of an individual who is a current or former recipient of addictions or mental health services.
    • Training and/or experience in community resources, substance abuse disorders and treatment/recovery in Linn County required.
    • Documentation of current and continuous abstinence required in accordance with certification requirements of MHACBO in the case of a recovering candidate.
    • Experience and/or training with computer applications preferred.
    • Enrollment in a Human Services Program preferred.

    • Communication - Effective written and verbal communication skills to perform group presentations, tactfully discuss issues, and listen to and understand complex information/situations. Ability to work with all levels within the organization, facilitate communication, and effectively document related activities.
    • Social Perceptiveness - Ability to work with a diverse population. Basic understanding of differences in caring for and/or communicating with patients and caregivers. Possess personal sensitivity to the needs and experiences of others and a non-judgmental attitude towards persons of differing standards, values, lifestyles, and ages.
    • A comprehensive understanding of substance abuse and its impact on the community and families and the ability to articulate that information to a diverse population.
